No Nonsense Guide to Eating

The sad truth is that few people eat properly. It is a fact that nearly a third of Americans are overweight or obese. Follow these no nonsense steps and you can create a healthy and productive life.
  • Breakfast of champions.
  • To meat or not to meat.
  • Skip the salt.
  • Organic or nothing.
  1. Most people are aware that breakfast is the most vital meal of the day, but some still skip or skimp on it. You are not stuck with a bowl of oatmeal or a bowl of fruit every day. You can enjoy a delicious bowl of low sugar cereal with some blueberries or bananas on it. How about some low sodium turkey bacon and a couple of eggs? Nothing wrong with a lovely English muffin with some low fat butter and jelly on it. Of course, enjoy your bowl of oatmeal and even put some raisins on it. DO NOT skip breakfast as it provides the stimulus to start the day and keep your motor running until lunch.
  2. The vegetarian diet has always been with us and always will be. The debate goes on and on, and the results are not conclusive. Oh yes, the vegetarians insist that there is certifiable evidence that they are right. I have read most of the reports, and the jury is still out. Point is do what works for you. If you, for whatever reason, do not want to eat meat, skip the meat and enjoy the vegetables. If you are a meat eater, limit the beef to 3 times a week and make sure it is lean. Fish, especially wild Salmon, is super healthy. Turkey and chicken dishes can be particularly tasty and healthy. The whole point is do what works for you. If you are a vegetarian because of religious beliefs, do not be intimidated into eating meat - stick with the veggies.
  3. It is not rocket science when I say that salt (sodium) is a killer. I have watched people order a meal, and before they even get a bite of the food, out comes the salt shaker and the salt goes on. "Oh, but it tastes so good!" Yes, and when the arteries are clogged, and you need a triple bypass it is not so appetizing! There are many substitutes that you can use, and they are just as tasty.
  4. In some cases, it could be nothing as not every city and store contain organic foods. It is true that more and more stores are stocking organic choices. If you can get and afford organic by all means do it. There is no doubt that they are healthier.
Just use common sense in your eating and meal planning. Include lots of fruit and vegetables every day when possible. Skip the salt and limit the beef. Portions, portions, portions - it is all in the size.
