Effective Self-Talk: The Path To Fitness Success
The most important thing about self-talk is realizing that you create it.
Effective self-talk will change your life. It's how you coach and encourage yourself, re-shape your habits and your health, and find your path to fitness success. In this way it becomes a fitness fundamental.
Your silent inner reality is either working for you or against you. Understand the personal power it adds to any moment. Don't miss the opportunity to use self-talk to your advantage.
Thoughts are moments that lead to your physical choices. You have the power to create effective self-talk moment by moment and to choose fitness. Don't shoot yourself in the foot. Choose to get some exercise and eat nutritiously.
Effective self-talk will help you turn temptation into empowerment because each time you pass up temptation you empower yourself and become stronger. Success leads to more success. Become a new you by passing up bad temptations one by one. Soon you will have developed the habit of passing up temptation.
What do you tell yourself in your moment of temptation so that you can overcome it?
Every coin has two sides. Find the flip side of the coin. Every debate has pros and cons. There is always more than one way to think about anything.
When the mood hits for greasy, salty or fatty foods don't be short-sighted. Think about what comes with these choices- cellulite, bad skin, clogged arteries, and heart surgery. Learn to associate these choices with the bad stuff. You will eventually condition yourself to be turned off by greasy, salty or fatty.
Whenever you consider choosing to eat a candy bar focus on what you are really choosing. See it for what it really is- a choice to become sick.
When tempted to skip your workout remember how proud of yourself you are when you meet your goals. Work out and feel good.
Think about your "issues" ahead of time so you will have some thoughts ready to meet resistance. Remember that each time you overcome resistance you get stronger because you resisted. The first time is the hardest.
Every success leads to another and it gets easier to be good. You are developing new habits and becoming a new you, one choice at a time.
Here are some tips to help with food temptations:
• Remember that you like to eat lots of things. The fact that something tastes good to you can become a big "so what." Require that your food choices be nutritious as well as delicious.
• Buy some time. Tell yourself that if you are really good all week then you can have your junky choice on Saturday night. Maybe when Saturday night arrives you will have gotten over yourself. Maybe you'll be able to wait another day or two before you give in. More good days mean less bad days.
• Remember that cravings happen because you are being set-up by the food industry to crave the foods and become a regular customer so they can get rich while you can get sick or fat. Choose not to play their game.
• Don't ignore your inner voice. Embrace it. It may not be audible but you know you can hear it.
You can't push and pull at the same time. You can't make bad choices and get good results. Good choices lead to good results. Feed yourself some positive and effective self-talk so you can you push away from bad habits and pull toward the ones you want to keep.
Success comes from learning how to help yourself- learning what works for you. You only need to remember to talk to yourself in your moment of temptation.
Focus on all the bad facts about trashy food. Eventually instead of struggling to say no to trash it will be a struggle to say yes.
See the "treat" for what it really is- a punishment for your body. Don't punish yourself. Be the one who builds you up. You have control here.
If none of these ideas work for you it could be that you really don't care about your condition. If you do care then you may need to exercise a little gumption- or just shut up and eat right!
